The characteristic that sets Radio
Buraq apart from the usual
run-of-the-mill FM stations is that it
is Pakistan’s first “Community Radio”!
We aim to offer “info-tainment” to the
masses!
Vision
At Radio Buraq, we don’t believe in just
providing meaningless entertainment all
the time! We have a very strong
commitment to provide an easy access and
penetration of media to the local
community, and to encourage their
involvement and participation in it. Our
radio truly reflects the taste of the
community we address! Radio Buraq
provides a channel with which the
community of Sialkot can develop and
maintain a strong cultural and lingual
affinity and identity. We hope to become
a tool of development for the community
of Sialkot!
Aim
In a span of almost one year, the Radio
has tried to strengthen this community
to be able to voice its opinions and
take decisions for its own betterment.
It sees eventually a community with a
strong awareness of governance, and a
group of people motivated to help NGOs
and to volunteer more willingly for the
social uplift of their society. The
radio aims to make Sialkot more aware of its
economic and educational situation,
hygiene and health, societal problems, and ready to
improve those conditions all by itself!
Future Plans
Radio Buraq is currently up and running
in the city of Sialkot and its
neighboring suburbs, and after its
amazing success, it is all ready to set
up another radio station soon. The new
arena will be Peshawar; a thriving city
of much historical importance, hosting a
bustling population of vivacious Pathans,
and playing an important role in the
country’s economy and politics. The
programs will be designed according to
the needs and tastes of the residents of
Peshawar, and to address their local
concerns and problems. The primary
function of Radio Buraq FM-104 in
Peshawar will be achieving a stable and
independent community, aware of its
concerns and eager to work for its
betterment and development. Radio Buraq
is already airing its Test Transmission
in Peshawar. However, the citizens of
Peshawar will be hearing the Regular
Transmission very soon!
By the beginning of 2005, Buraq has
definite plans to start its operations
in Mardan and its suburbs as well!
Programming
Radio Buraq offers all kinds of
entertaining programs
interspersed with information and
knowledge, for the audience. Recently,
the radio has increased its transmission
to 19 hours (6 am – 1 am PST). The most
popular programs amongst the audience
are those that are broadcast LIVE for 17
hours everyday.
This allows the people to call in, and
share their own opinion on various
topics. The calls are especially
frequent during the Citizen’s Hour a program
specifically produced for discussing and
solving the communities’ problems.
